Last night we had the longest, brightest and by far the loudest thunderstorm I've ever been in. It went on and on and on. It was difficult to get up this morning but thankfully we are on the afternoon shift at the temple. I feel sorry for those who are working right now. It's still cloudy and wet this morning. ***I never finished this - and it seems like so long ago. That storm did mega damage to many cities around Nauvoo but almost no damage to Nauvoo. Quincy was declared a disaster area so that they could get help - even Keokuk had roofs blown off and trees down. It was actually more wind damage than rain.
Nauvoo
Today was really interesting. Elder Scott's family is having a reunion in Nauvoo and almost 100 of them came to the temple to do baptisms and sealings. Elder Scott was suppose to be attending but had a last minute assignment change and could not get here by today. However, his two brothers were here and they look and act so much like him (one more than the other) that it almost seemed like he was here.
Because of my assignments I was able to meet both of them and many other members of the family. They seem like a great family.

Nauvoo
Hello - I guess we should be posting here more - time is a problem - and forgetfulness - we forget that it's here - guess we're not the only ones.
It's raining again today - in fact there are suppose to be some "sever thunderstorms" so we're not suppose to go traveling around. I see most of the cars are still here which is unusual.
We look forward to seeing Mark, Tori and Bryce on Wednesday and Thursday - Brent and Sharlene Gardner were here this weekend. The stayed at a B&B that is less than 2 blocks from us
My brother Dale and part of his family is coming in a couple of weeks. It's fun to have people come.
We're also had a great time getting reacquainted with Norm and Marsha Nilson. They have almost the same schedule as ours so we see them often.
When the weather is OK Dad has plenty of Disc Golf places to play and we've found several Geocaches. We cross the Mississippi several times each week - even just to do serious grocery shopping - the little store here doesn't have much.
Except for the weather - things have been great. We're at the Temple about 8 hours 5 days a week.
I'll post a couple of picture - I don't know how to chose which ones.

Temple
Last week we went on the "field trip" to "The Prairie Museum" about 100 miles away with others who are off on Friday.
The thunder and lightning is starting now.
No boating
Even with the Subaru here we can not use the canoe because almost all the lakes are closed to any boating - and the four that are open have mega restrictions and inspections. During the past week we've hiked around the areas of Lexington and Coyote and both have NO vessel signs. Sad

A little news.
Dad and I will most likely, or maybe quite probably, spend the summer serving in the Temple in Nauvoo.

It's a long story.
They ask for names of ordnance workers from the Oakland Temple who were available to work in Nauvoo for the summer.
So we turned in our names.
They do this every year but the temples that are ask to participate change. The temple matron told me that dozens of people "applied", of those, two couple were ask to turn in their mission papers, we were one of the couples.
If we "pass" then we would be in Nauvoo from the end of April until sometime in October. We hope Dad's heart is not a problem - or anything else - even my blood pressure - although it's usually just fine. All we can do is turn in the papers - the same papers that all missionaries turn in -- a lot for just 6 months. I wish it were simpler.
When we arrived home from this last trip there were messages on our machine from Temple Workers congratulating us -- although that was premature -- they had announced it in the Temple as if we were going for sure. The messages were the first we had heard anything.
Our stake president did get a letter with instructions for us to turn in mission papers by mid December - the Bishop gave us that letter Wednesday. We only have the information from the letter to the Temple President and to our Stake President. No personal contact.
I'm not sure we are comfortable enough to be excited to go. But if we do end up going, which, as I said before, is quite probable - then it should be a fun experience. It does feel like the right thing to do right now.
