Last of the April Birthdays

We got to see Nato for his birthday. We got him a Hippity-Hop, for Simon to use, but I bet Nate tries it when no one is around. It made me remember when he was little on his spiderman hippity-hop bouncing like crazy with his hair flying up in the air.

The next night we went to Samantha's birthday party for a 3 course meal of smoky smoked sausage and potatoes and then ribs and then cake, the kids had the outside edges the adults all ate pieces from the middle. Samantha had a cake of her own that only she ate and she got it good.

This was a difficult time since Simon's ears were hurting him. I have one picture of Simon looking so sad it still makes me want to cry - plus the cute picture of him hiding and sleeping in the corner of the couch.

A Little of This & a Little of That

What new in San Jose:

The Roses are blooming like crazy. We went for a walk in the San Jose Rose garden Sunday afternoon. It was beautiful - so many roses. We have a few nice roses in our yard and lots and lots of other flowers -- big mess of yellow Columbines


We went on a drive Saturday afternoon - after Dad came home from teaching a workshop - we drove alone the coast - had lunch in an old place in Pescadero - it was so crowded! We had to wait 20 minutes to get a seat - we almost said yes to a seat in the Tavern - but as we followed the waitress into the room we found it was wall to wall black leather and bandannas. So we waited. We had actually seen the wearers of this attire - at least 200 of them - no kidding - We had to wait for them to pass before we made a left turn (picture) then we drove behind them for several miles coming into the city.



We ended up at Phil's for dinner - seeing lots of things on the drive. The Boardwalk was packed as full as a summer day - difficult to find parking places all along the drive. Guess it's summer in California.

Here are a few new facts that you may or may not be aware of:

Several beaches have rivers right now so you have to do some wading to get to the water -- at natural bridges the little lake is a big lake and the river out of it goes all the way to the 'bridges'.

There is a new car bridge to "Phil's" - no more one car bridge.

The prices at Phil's are still way too high. Won't be going there very often

There is no more Castro Middle School - only one Middle School: "Moreland Middle School" - it is where Castro was - the other Middle school is not being used.

The Beehive Book store moved to a little place in the strip mall behind "Goodies Restaurant". They sold the other property - new owners

Century 24 is gone - the one by Toys R Us.

There is finally a Pizza Place where the old Pizza place was on Campbell - It's now a Round Table - we haven't been there.

Well, guess that's all I can think of right now.

Oh - and we did find a few geo's on our travels - It can be so frustrating - I won't go into that one. Here's a picture of Dad writing a sign in at a find in the bushes at Rosicrucian Museum. (sorry it's sideways - don't know how to turn it now)

April almost over - two birthdays to go

"The sun was warm but the wind was chill. You know how it is with an April day. When the sun is out and the wind is still, You're one month on in the middle of May. This poem has certainly been true. Next year we should record what the weather is like on each of the April birthdays - some were winter, others spring and even summer.

Happy Birthday Simon

Well there wasn't really a party. Nate and Carrie brought Simon over to open some presesnts and eat cake while they did laundry, but it made for cute pictures. Especially with the icing hairdo.

Here comes Peter Cotton Tail, beware.

This makes me laugh. I can remember watching it on Sesame Street when I was little, maybe that explains why I'm nervous and apprehensive. What were they trying to teach us exactly, very weird. Sooo...Happy Easter!

Looks like the little camera car went driving around Utah last summer. So far it hasn't visited Campbell, Rexburg, or Fort Collins but if it went through Morgan, I'm sure it will soon.

Snow Day

The kids are on their 4th snow day, they went today but the bus got stuck in a snowdrift on the way home so they were a little late, a tractor and snowplow had to help them out. All the roads in and out of Rexburg were closed many times. It's nice to have our teen boy slave labor for shoveling.

More Alaska Pictures

In these pictures are dad and I cross country skiing on the winter solstice. That's about as light as it got all day and it only lasted 2-3 hours. Next is an ice carving show we saw in North Pole which goes along with the third one. The next one is of the viewing hut where we sat in the middle of nowhere to see the northern lights. The last one is at Santa Claus's house in North Pole. We actually took this picture for a virtual geocache.

Here are some pictures of mom and dad in Alaska. I only have a couple of myself since they're from my camera. The first one is getting on the plane we took from Fairbanks to Bettles. Then in there is dad packed as cargo into a dog sled and two of mom packed up the same. Then there's one of dad in all his Alaska snow gear.

Rockwoods at the Arctic Circle at minus 36.9 degres

Aleen, Jay and Katie are watching the Northern Lights at Bettles Lodge which is 35 miles north of the Arctic Circle. Temp. very cold. Now just below a minus 36 degrees. The high today was minus 20 degrees. We were all dresses with 6 layers of clothing and looked like eskemos with our loaned fur coats. The flight from Fairbanks to Bettles was cold but sights remarkable. We followed the Alaskan oil pipe line and saw Dalani and lots of cold mountian areas. The food is great and Lodge is warm with all the emminties and comforts of warmth. It is hard to breath when we are out in the cold. We're going on a dog sled ride tomorrow. The sun us up for about 3 hours per day from 11:30am to 2:30pm. We will keep you advised on our activities.

This gives almost as much of a fear danger adrenalin rush as Katie's.

After being my personal chauffeur for a year and a half he finally can drive on his own! SO NOW he can also be my delivery, pick-up and errand boy, ha ha just kidding...well no, not really.

He has been preparing for this since he was just a little guy, and then we made him wait so long. He was the first of his friends to get his learners permit and almost the last to get his final licence.

He said "the extravaganza has arrived!!!"

You'll never believe what I did today

I didn't tell anyone I was going in case I chickened out, but as it turned out I didn't. I thought it would be a good way to get my mind off Bryan, celebrate my half birthday and comemorate my 100th geocache find(it was in the parking lot out front). It wasn't scary at all...ok just a little. It was really fun though and I almost threw up after the parachute was up. (I've never grown out of the motion sickness thing) I never thought I'd do something crazy that Bryce hadn't even done. I paid the arm and a leg they charge for a DVD of it and some snapshots. It turned out to be worth it. Plus since I was all by myself I needed proof I did it. So here's the proof...

Thanks to Katie and Bryan for letting us have Sarah's party at their house.

It has been a good month. Sarah had her third birthday and Samantha turned six months old. She weighed in at 14 lbs. 8 oz at her doctor visit and had a good check up. Jacob takes good care of his sisters and we are adjusting to a new baby in the family. All the kids got their flu immunizations last Thursday--what an ordeal! We had to promise a treat at the store if they would hold still and then all three cried and cried after it was over. Now we just have to go back for the second dose of their immunization in six weeks.

Anna saw you there and in the newspaper and sent me this. She lives there and went to see a friend race, she was going to go say hi but she said you were on the cell phone talking all excited and happy.
